Freshman and sophomore students not on scholarship may participate in the AFROTC program commitment-free for up to two years. Try out the program and see if the Air Force is the right fit for you.
Upon entry into the POC, all cadets contract into the AFROTC program and commit to serving in the USAF and commissioning after completing the AFROTC program and their Bachelor's degree.
After completing all Air Force ROTC and academic degree requirements, AFROTC cadets accept a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, appointed by the President of the United States.
The length of your initial service commitment depends on your career. Most Air Force ROTC graduates incur a four-year, active duty service commitment. Pilots and other rated (flying) career fields incur a longer active duty service commitment.
